Katrina Szederkenyi joins Gewandhaus Orchestra

Katrina Szederkenyi was recently appointed co-principal harpist of the Gewandhaus Orchestra, in Leipzig, Germany. The audition was held in April, and Szederkenyi began with the orchestra this season. “It’s an honor to be a part of an orchestra with such an amazing history and traditional values,” says Katrina, who performs alongside fellow harpist Cornelia Smaczny in the shared principal position. “It’s nice having a harp colleague—in a lot of orchestras the harpist is a lone figure,” she says. “I feel very lucky to have such wonderful colleagues who are all such fantastic musicians. It’s very exciting to perform with fantastic conductors and on tour in some of the worlds greatest concerts concert halls.” The orchestra performs a full schedule of opera and symphonic programs throughout the year.
