The 22nd International Harp Contest in Israel is returning to Jerusalem, where it was first established. On the competition website and social media, the competition organizers say, “This competition has a rich history; bringing it back to its roots makes this one extra special. For many years, the contest took place in various locations in Israel, and now, we are proud to celebrate its return to Jerusalem, the City of King David.” According to the competition website, its founder, the late A.Z. Propes, was inspired to create the competition by the Bible’s description of King David playing the lyre.
All four stages of the 2025 contest will take place at the Jerusalem Theater and will be broadcast live for those who are unable to attend in person. The opening concert is scheduled for Dec. 1 at the Jerusalem Theater, Henri Crown Hall, and features Claudia Lucia Lamanna of Italy, first prize winner of the 21st International Harp Contest in Israel held in 2022. The competition’s final concert will take place Dec. 11.
