The Hampton Roads Harp Festival will take place Saturday, March 16, at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, with an option to attend virtually. Featured artist Maeve Gilchrist will headline the festival with a performance and workshop. Other events include workshops, masterclasses, and performances open to all ages, styles, and levels. Early bird registration ends Feb. 29.

The Hampton Roads Harp Competition will also take place in conjunction with the festival. According to its website, the goal of the competition is “to help students to become comfortable performing by providing meaningful, professional feedback in a fair and nurturing environment.” A prescreening video is required, as well as an additional registration fee.

The competition is divided into two categories by age (up to U.S. grade 12). A certificate and cash prize will be awarded to the winners of both categories. Repertoire is free choice, consisting of two pieces of contrasting styles, which demonstrate technique and musicality. The preliminary round is via pre-recorded video. All pre-recorded entries are due by March 2. Finalists will be notified by March 11 and will compete live, either via a private Zoom link, or in person at the Hampton Roads Harp Festival on March 16.
