“The President’s Own” United States Marine Band appointed Taylor Fleshman as its harpist, following the retirement of Master Gunnery Sergeant Karen Grimsey. Fleshman began the position in July following the audition in the spring of 2023. In this role, she is a featured soloist who performs with the Marine Band and Marine Chamber Orchestra at the White House, in the Washington, D.C., area, and across the country during the band’s annual concert tour.

Fleshman says of her appointment, “When this audition opened up, it was a unique chance for me to serve my country and to do something that I really love. I am very excited to be part of the mission [of “The President’s Own”], which is to provide music for the President of the United States and the Commandant of the Marine Corps, and to do it alongside phenomenal musicians.”

Before joining “The President’s Own,” Fleshman was principal harp with The Orchestra Now and was featured as a guest soloist with the Moscow Symphony Orchestra, the Pacific Region International Summer Music Academy Orchestra, and the Jakarta Simfonia Orchestra. She has also performed with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Virginia Symphony Orchestra, and Richmond Symphony Orchestra.
