George Mason University (GMU) has appointed Taylor Ann Fleshman to its faculty beginning in the fall of 2024. “I’m really excited to grow and mentor the harp department at GMU!” she says. “Each student brings something unique to their musical journey. By encouraging a well-rounded education that spans different musical genres, ensembles, and practice techniques, they’ll develop into versatile musicians ready for today’s multifaceted musical landscape.” As a clinician, Fleshman has given masterclasses at the University of Cincinnati, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and was guest faculty at the 2023 American Harp Academy.

Fleshman is currently the harpist with “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band. As a member upholding the mission of “The President’s Own” to provide musical support for the President of the United States, she regularly performs as a featured soloist at the White House as well as in the Washington, D.C., area, and across the country during the band’s national concert tour. Prior to her appointment with “The President’s Own,” she has appeared as a soloist with the Jakarta Simfonia Orchestra, PRISMA Festival Orchestra, The Orchestra Now, and the Moscow Symphony Orchestra, with whom she recorded Mosolov’s Harp Concerto with Naxos Records.

Fleshman’s awards include first prize at the Pacific Region International Summer Music Academy’s concerto competition, second prize from the Ceren Necipoglu International Competition (chamber division), and first prize at the Three Arts Competition. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Cincinnati and master’s degree from Indiana University. Her teachers have included Florence Sitruk, Dr. Gillian Sella, Jacquelyn Bartlett, Lynnelle Ediger, and Julie Money.
