Program summary

Cannon Music Camp is a preview of the music major college experience providing students with music theory instruction, classes in conducting and composition, weekly lessons and masterclasses, and multiple ensemble performances (band, orchestra, choir, jazz, and small groups). It is open to current eighth graders through graduating high school seniors.

This program is open to vocalists and instrumentalists (woodwinds, brass, strings, percussion, piano, harp, guitar)

Cannon Music Camp is a three-week music-filled retreat in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. The camp offers intensive college preparatory work that sets students up for success in auditions, college music study, and their own musical passions. Attending Cannon Music Camp is a great way to learn about the Hayes School of Music, our faculty, staff, the campus, and surrounding area of Boone, North Carolina. Campers learn and perform with the Hayes School of Music faculty and excellent visiting artists.

– Cost and Scholarships
The complete cost of camp for 2025 is $2,950. This includes all classes, ensembles, housing, dining, concerts, activities, etc. for three weeks. (The only instructional costs not already included are certain optional electives, ranging from $75-150 per elective.)

NEW for 2025: an updated scholarship process with more opportunities for you! Students can apply for a scholarship by sending an audition video or auditioning in person for a camp representative. This year, campers can now apply for an increase to their scholarship, especially if financial need would make it difficult to come to camp.
