Richard Allen is the newly appointed section principal harp of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. “I couldn’t be more thrilled to be joining the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra,” Allen says. “Some of my most significant musical memories have been made playing with these exceptional musicians in recent years, and I’m so grateful to my colleagues for their trust. It is such an honor, and I look forward to many more years with them.”
A graduate of the Philharmonia Orchestra Fellowship Program, Allen now freelances with orchestras including the Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Hamburg, Opera North, Bremer Philharmoniker, Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic. In 2023, he was appointed harp tutor at the Institute of Fine Arts at Leuphana Universität in Germany, and he gives courses and masterclasses across Europe, including the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Royal Irish Academy of Music, and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.
