AHS announces 2019 competition repertoire

The American Harp Society has announced repertoire requirements for its 2019 national competition. Located at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, the competition is slated to take place in June 2019, prior to the AHS Summer Institute. The application deadline is April 15, 2019 and is open to harpists ages 30 and under. Applicants must be members of the American Harp Society and citizens of either the United States or elsewhere in the Americas. There are five different divisions, with each age group offering six prizes, ranging from $250 to $2500. The first prize winner of the Young Professional Division will also be given the honor of AHS Concert Artist. The 22nd national competition took place at St. Olaf College in June 2017 and Abigail Kent (pictured above) took home the top prize.

Junior Division (maximum age 12 years on June 1, 2019)

Intermediate I Division (maximum age 15 years on June 1, 2019)

Intermediate II Division (maximum age 18 years on June 1, 2019)
Bach: Largo from Violin Sonata No. 5 (any edition)

Advanced Division (maximum age 21 years on June 1, 2019)
Spohr: Variations sur l’air “Je suis encore dans mon printemps”
Presle: Le Jardin Mouille
Rota: Sarabande e Toccata

Young Professional Division (maximum age 30 years on June 1, 2019)
Faure: Une châtelaine en sa tour
