The USA International Harp Competition (USAIHC) has announced the 48 harpists from 21 countries competing in its 12th contest, which will take place June 29–July 9 in Bloomington, Ind. The jury, led by jury president Naoko Yoshino (Japan), also includes Anne-Sophie Bertrand (Germany), Shannon Shuen Chieh (Taiwan), Dickie Fleisher (USA), Maria Krushevskaya (Russia), Judy Loman (Canada), and Isabelle Perrin (France).
The USAIHC is a triennial competition that takes place at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music. Open to harpists of all nationalities between the ages of 18 and 32, the competition was founded by Susann McDonald in 1989. The USAIHC’s executive director is Moya Wright. Contestants compete in four stages: two stages of required repertoire, a 40–minute free choice program, and a concerto performance with the Jacobs School of Music Festival Orchestra for the three finalists. The third stage will also feature the piece selected as winner of the 7th USAIHC Ruth Inglefield Composition Contest, self, written by Ariel Sol “Ari” Bertulfo Schwartz.
