The University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (Austria) has appointed Anne-Sophie Bertrand harp professor, beginning in October 2026. “I’m extremely honored to join the professor team at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz from October 2026, alongside my work as solo harpist with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra,” Bertrand says. “I’m looking forward to bringing my own experience and to working with an amazing community of musicians. Bertrand is principal harp of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, a visiting professor at the Royal Academy of Music in London, and a member of the faculty at the Akademie für Tonkunst in Darmstadt. She is the recipient of the 2024 Kulturpreis from the Ingrid zu Solms Foundation, recognizing her achievements in elevating female voices in the arts and sciences. Bertrand gives masterclasses throughout Europe, Asia, and South America, and has served as a jury member for major international competitions, including the USA International Harp Competition.
Bertrand performs internationally as a soloist and chamber musician. As a guest solo harpist, Bertrand has performed under the batons of Paavo Järvi, Alain Altinoglu, Andrés Orozco-Estrada, Esa-Pekka Salonen, and Hugh Wolff, and with orchestras such as the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, and BBC Symphony Orchestra. She has appeared alongside soloists like Renaud Capuçon, Ning Feng, Julian Prégardien, Yeree Suh, and Xenia Jancovich. Bertrand has performed at leading international venues such as Wigmore Hall, the Beijing National Theatre, the Purcell Room, Fondation Gianadda, Alte Oper Frankfurt, St David’s Hall in Cardiff, and Simón Bolívar Hall in Caracas.
An advocate for the harp’s contemporary and original repertoire, Bertrand has premiered and arranged numerous works for the harp and has worked with composers such as Pierre Boulez, Heinz Holliger, and Camille Pépin. Her recordings—on labels including Telarc, Naxos, Pentatone, and Ars Produktion—have earned nominations for the Opus Klassik award and praise from critics at Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, El Mundo Clásico, and Fanfare Magazine.
