    Well guys I just arrived home and my living room has a new piece hehe
    There were only 2 bardics left in the country and I’m the proud owner of one of those!

    It was so cool to visit the shop and see all those beautiful crafted harps. Since neither the seller nor me can play harp, I wasn’t able to get a full review of what was I about to buy.
    Fortunately, a teacher which was looking for another bardic came and was gentle enough to play both harps so I could hear how both did sound like.
    As you see I finally decided going bardic 27 over renting a more stringed harp.

    It’s beautiful,sounds nice and I’ve been trying to get the first notes of Brian Boru’s March!

    The seller also told me that he knows some teachers relatively close to me so I’m really hyped and willing to start this path

    @wil
    It’s so sad I can’t read your messages. I don’t know what going wrong with this forum since I can’t either see any f the websites you linked. Looks like some nasty antispam protection…
    Btw, is it there any telegram group?

    @balfour
    Thanks for your kind words! As you can see I’ve already bought that one and I really want to start the harp study and practice!
    I’ve decided the bardic over bigger ones due to the mobility and price factors

    I made some grammatical mistakes like “lay” instead of play and “get” instead of guess. New smartphone and not being able to edit my posts (or I can’t find the option when posting thru my mobile phone!)

    Thanks him for your useful input.
    As you said Dusty Strings only will ship at a greater price and that Ravenna isn’t fully levered
    As an European I’m limited to European choices, otherwise I’d had probably gone for a harpsicle or other non-Pakistani budget harps.

    Renting is a possibility and next week I’m visiting Camac shop in Madrid so I will check what possibilities do I have. They told me that their bardic series were discontinued but they still had a couple of 27s for selling
    As you can see, any other options like Telenn, Hermine etc start at ~2500€ which is unaffordable for the moment. I’ll check the rental conditions anyway.
    I’ll also may have the chance to touch them (not to lay because I don’t know heh) and get a feel and listen their sound. I feel like the bardic sits in a sweet spot between quality and price giving my circumstances

    But that’s all theory because I haven’t even touched it heh

    One teacher answered me! She is a latinamerican woman who says she can help me although I guess she plays other kind of music. But I get technique will be similar and she also said that having the harp I want to play with would be great
    Still waiting answers from other people

    Thanks again to you all for sharing your opinions on the matter and shedding some light in this darkness

    By the way I’m a boy haha

    I dont know what to do.
    I understand that a lap harp isnt the smartest choice forma a beginner, but spending 2500€ in a floor harp without knowing anything feels risky.
    Aside, I’d need some months to save for that extra amount.

    Only a couple of teachers in my area (around 100km) and no answers by the moment. Aside they are classic harp teachers and I dont know if they are experienced with lever celt harps.

    Looks like I live in the wrong country un order to play this kind of harp hehe

    By saving I mean in order to buy a floor one, but that would cost almost a +100% and getting stuck in home, which isn’t necessarily bad, but…

    @Evolène:
    I’ve been re-reading the posts here and this are my thoughts.
    Since I like to hang with friends who also play instruments, my future teacher will be like 1hour away from my place ( at least) and I’d like to get lessons with my own harp, I think that getting a more mobile harp isn’t that bad.
    Anyways I’ll travel to a big city in a few days and visit a store where I will be able to try some harps I guess.

    Maybe I can just hold my desire to start playing and just keep saving money for some months, but that doesn’t sound that appealing heh

    Hello again!

    Biagio: my idea is to learn from a static position, sitting with the harp resting in my body, so I’d use the 4 extra legs that come with the harp, aside of any box to accommodate it to my shape.
    Regarding the condition, it’s a new one so I expect it to be excellent haha!

    Evòlene: thanks too for sharing your experience. I’d love to be able to travel that far but as you pointed I live not close to France and aside of my French being poor, I wouldn’t know what to look at when evaluating a second hand harp! So I think that going with a new one is safer and grants me guarantees that I couldn’t obtain otherwise.

    I’m still a bit worried that both you and Biagio pointed that the recommended starting harp should be a floor one since I can’t afford one in this moment although the feedback I’m receiving from you guys about the Bardic is a good one.

    Thanks for your insightful answers, guys.

    I’ve been watching many videos where Bardic is being played, wil-weten, and I like the sound it produces aside of the looks. It’s just a big investment for my economy and I just want to be sure that I’m going the right way!

    Thanks Tanya, your feedback is really appreciated. Afaik, the Bardic comes with that removable legs that I guess would make playing it a bit easier regarding stability.

    Nice to hear that Charles! I don’t think there are tablatures and resources like the guitar ones but I’ll figure out!
    And regarding Spanish tradition, it was lost long time ago and not recovered as Celtic one did in the last decades.
    Aside, the music played with harps in Latin America isn’t exactly what I want to be honest.
    There are some areas in the north like Galicia that still have some Celtic heritage and teach Celtic harp instead of classical one, but that’s like a 15 hours trip!

    First of all, thanks for your answer, Charles!

    I live in Spain, and there aren’t teachers near my place (there are a couple on a private lessons website but didn’t receive any answer so far) nor any shop where I can try an harp. I’d have to move ~500km to get something.

    Also, there’s literally no second hand market regarding harps. Looks like is not a common instrument in those latitudes.

    That’s why I’m doing my research online and asking you guys.

    I can’t read music, never took lessons and played guitar by ear and using tablatures, so I don’t know how hard would it be to adapt pieces to a higher octave due to the lack of bass strings in a less than 30 harp.

    But if I have to learn to read music, I’m ok with it since I love how the harp sounds and I’d really love to play it. I’m aware that’s not going to be an easy journey but I’m up for the challenge and decided to make that investment.
    Actually, if I had more money I’d go for the bigger ones.

    So, as you can see, I’m a bit limited by the circumstances and a bit clueless about what to do although I’d love to start right now.
