    Dear Judy, Yes, piano helps with learning the harp, but is not neccesary to start. I am a harp teacher in Oreland, PA (near Fort Washington). You can email me with questions or inquire about lessons- mcutcher@juno.com. Seven is a great age to start.

    Age four really is too young. I would suggest waiting a year or two when eye-hand coordination is better. At that time teach the basics of music with harp instruction by playing a lot of games.

    Ideally, kids should start at about 8 or 9. They seem to have enough concentration at that age, but are still young enough to listen to your every word!
