ParticipantCONGRATS!! Its a good idea to get a humidifier in a dry climate 🙂 I wouldn’t worry about acclimating it, however. Just think of all the harpists travelling all over with their harps. They are pretty strong creatures! But adding some extra humidity to the area its kept it is a good idea! (I moved my harps from extremely humid Atlanta to very dry Iceland, and they are doing just fine!)

ParticipantInteresting stuff Maya. I might check it out!! Did you drill the hole in the base of your harp, or do you just have it out of the bottom sound hole?

Participanthehe! Congrats 🙂 Those must have been some glissandi!!

ParticipantWhy not end with Debussy Danses or the Trio? Both are fabulous pieces! Then again, concert order is something that is very personal. 🙂

ParticipantSong of the Night is not lever harp friendly. :-/ But it is beautiful and a lot of fun to play!! 🙂

ParticipantI’m not sure I heard any slap bass technique in there. It was just flat octaves, right? Do you have another example maybe, because, I’d be interested in this as an extended technique. 🙂

ParticipantWe were listening to this crazy theremin album they did (my composer boyfriend is really in to playing the theremin, hehe!) and there was TONS of harp. Really fun stuff! I was internet searching for hours and found nothing.

ParticipantInteresting stuff! 🙂

ParticipantSylvia, what I mean is that sound engineers working at the concerts which I play at are in charge of amplifying my pedal harp. Hence, me being off the the side. I was only trying to offer what I know (which isn’t much) and mention that I found this conversation interesting.

ParticipantCatherine, I don’t have an answer for you, but congrats on the new harp and I hope you are having a lot of fun!

ParticipantNo! Its very interesting. I’m by no means any expert. I always let my friends or the sound engineers do it for me 🙂 I only had experience with the AER on my electric harp (DHC light), which is made to be plugged in. Otherwise, my pedal harp in amplified with me just observing off to the side. So, its interesting to hear your system. I was talking to a girl who amplifies her pedal harp a lot. She loves the old tube amplifiers. However, they aren’t light at all! But its all very interesting to hear about your set up!

ParticipantI’ve never had the pedal sound problem with a contact mic, at least, I’ve never heard it. Hmmm. Not sure how to remedy that. I have used a microphone set up with an amp, but, they were never my microphones. Its either aimed directly at the sound board, in close (for when you are surrounded by louder instruments) or a little further back, kind of facing the column, but still down very low.

ParticipantOh! You should contact Megan Sesma of the Coast Guard Band (or actually, any of the armed forces band harpists.) But I think she might have done Mozart Harp and Flute with them.

ParticipantOh, I used it with my electric harp. But when I mic my acoustic harp, I use a contact mic on the soundboard at the biggest (widest) part, on one side. I attach it with the gummy stuff you use to hang posters? Its called sticky fix here. It never leaves any marks or causes any problems. It seems to work pretty well.
