I have taught several older students with stiff joints and have finally let go of my need to instill great technique. These folks, above all, want to produce nice tunes. If the goal is not to perform in public or make money, just make it possible to play some lovely music. Who cares if the tone is soft or uneven? If the melody is recognizable and smooth, help them feel good about using their brains and time to make music.
See if you can find “American Folk Song Trio” by Dewey Owens. It includes Mr. Froggie went ‘a courtin’ and Pop goes the Weasel.
It might be that the harp has a thicker soundboard which requires a (little) bit more strength. If you are closing your fingers completely and don’t have floppy knuckles, it should be fine.
I used to use a sheet of cardboard to slide the harp across, but I found that a sign company can supply a plastic version of cardboard that is light and wears better. I cut in into three pieces and duct tape them together so that I can fold it like a business letter for storage. It unfolds to cover the carpet. A nice camping mattress under the harp slides across it very easily. Big pillow under the base box.
I second the recommendation of Practicepoedia! Fun to use and full of very useful ideas for short term fixes and long term planning.
I like the look of a man in a shirt with slightly full sleeves and a short vest. Dashing in a Mediterranean way.
