I liked the days of the old station wagons. I had a Honda accord wagon which I loved until I bought a concert grand. probably similar to your Camry wagon. but I don’t want to go to something that old. I did hear a few manufacturers were beginning to make station wagons again and hope we will see more in the future. I might stick with my 2004 Odyssey until I see something better. My favorite was when the Odyssey first came out. It was a small minivan built on the Accord platform.
I have an Odyssey minivan which is great. I can even get the Celtic harp in along with pedal harp and amp. And I am still able to parallel park! But my question was not about minvans. I wondered about the newer crossovers and utility vehicles. Like the Kia Sorento and vehicles like that.
yes, what were your problems with Anderson? I just want to be able to specify the insurance amount, not get some ridiculous $48,000 value for a harp I pay $17,000 for.
thanks Sid! I wondered what other people are doing. They can’t be paying for it this way! I didn’t get anywhere with either Clarion or Merz Huber. They were both hung up on the gold and finding a comparable harp. So now I will try Anderson. I’ll ask them to insure for a harp with natural finish, specify amount. I had to send the check to Merz because the harp is in shipping right now. But now I’ll have time to work on checking it out with Anderson. It will be nice to DUMP Merz!
thanks Carl. Merz Huber told me it is replacement value only insisting on an appraisal amount. I’m still losing the argument. I’ll be insurance for shopping. I’ll use your approach.
Lyon and Healy will only give that appraisal amount. I’m going to try to give Merz Huber a copy of my receipt for $17,000 to see if they would cover it at that amount. Like Tacye said, that’s the price their experts gave it. I just think the whole thing is absurd but there are plenty of people with these older harps.
that’s not my point. I would never spend $48,000 trying to replicate a harp that was destroyed and no longer in production. I could buy a comparable semi grand harp for $25,000 or less. In the insurance world you can also insure for a set amount rather than an absurd value like that.. 17 is out of production but the 16 was even older. I couldn’t imagine rebuilding one from scratch.
I asked LH to give me another statement like “this harp is no longer in production. A new semi-grand would cost…”. They are checking to see if the can give me something. But so far, I’m sorry I gave them that appraisal of $48,000. They required a written appraisal.
Mia, if you join the American Harp Society you would be able to get insurance through a company that offers it for members. Homeowners insurance usually won’t cover it.
Wow Girl so you are into diamonds and gold? That one on Amazon is very blingy as you like. $35 and it is 1 and a half inches. Hard to tell in the picture. That other one is expensive $164.
Here are some on a Celtic harp website. Looks like $18-$40 range. I bet we will find more on the Celtic harp sites.
Thanks everyone! I finally learned “A Thousand Years” . The Piano Guys video was pretty inspirational for that song. I remember hearing people talk about Bella’s Lullaby. I’ll check out the others. I am definitely not up with the modern “music.” A lot of the requests for current pop songs don’t have enough melody for an instrumentalist to do anything with. I’ll check out your video VeeRonna!
Yes I get it! You are so funny! We just try not to say that so we don’t make people feel bad. When people call me for lessons I tell them to come and have an introductory lesson before they go and spend money. I caught a couple people who were thinking about buying those harps on eBay. I Managed to get them to rent other harps first.
Okay so your brother and sister were born in the US. Your parents are terrific people! I saw them in your video.
You are right that is the worst harp! Sometimes people don’t know any better and buy those thinking it’s a good deal. I was pretty sad to see they had spent their money on it. I saw in the video that you were from Romania. You have some wonderful parents who brought you all here and give you such great opportunities!
No she is not in a wheelchair. She walks very well with the use of a cane. I’m not sure about all her medical issues…they just had to see a lot of specialists lately and that is why they have cancelled a lot of lessons. And she has a very small lap harp which her dad bought her, unfortunately one of those very inexpensive ones. He bought it before he contacted me for lessons or I would have tried to suggest a better starter instrument. But she really does have an excellent sense of pitch which is very helpful. Yes! she is crazy about Celtic Woman and Orla Fallon who used to be with them.. She likes to sing so we started out just teaching her chords and arpeggios to accompany her singing. She has gone to our local Irish pub to sing Irish songs in the past. I was anxious to see her return and accompany herself on the harp. I’m afraid her lessons are on hold for a while until we can work out scheduling. Just when I was anxious to tell her about you!
