    Hi Niina,

    What a wonderful list!

How many hours a day do you have to practice to maintain all of this?

Thank you dears Sherj, Kay and Jerusha, no Jerusha I am unable to go back, I miss our house, my sleeping room, my harps, and no news about it, I still have my cell phone with some harp music I downloaded 1 year ago, I wish not to lose it, it’s the last thing remind me of the harp, I have in my mobile : Krumpholz concerto no 5 I love it, Glier concerto, Handel concert, Mozart, and some concertos by Marielle Nordman, and some solo harp music.

    Hi Jerusha

Well I have just started half term holiday from school until March 12th. On Thursday we did Spring Cantata and The Bells at the Royal Festival Hall in London with The Bach Choir. Now that that is all over I can do 5 or 6 hours a day during the holiday, and I will do about 3-4 a day when I go back to school.

Everyone at Chets has to practise at least 3 hours a day.

    Hi Philipa

I have 1 and a half hours per week with Gabriella (occasionally with Marie Leenhardt when Gabriella is busy), plus we all do a harp class together once a week. To be honest, I have to concentrate on everything each day. I do about 2 hours of exercises and technique a day during the weekends and 1 during a school day, then I just practise all the pieces, trying to get through them all each day. That’s on top of my piano lessons and practise and my Paraguayan Arpa practise!!

    Dear Basel,

Sing the melodies in your mind or out loud, and if any of your music is memorized, practice it mentally. Go through the hand/pedal movements in the air as if your harp was with you.

    Wonderful!!

Right now I’ve got Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring and Pachelbel Cannon (both duets) and I’ve just started working on the Flower Duet.

It would be wonderful not to have to work all my songs around for a 22 string harp…

I’m new to the list as of today.

Two years ago a teacher in town heard me play and bluntly told me I had lost any good technique, if I ever had any! So I told him to “show me!” He has now declared I have moved from dilettante to professional – at 77. I have had two major recitals and on my music stand I’m working on Mozart’s Concerto for Flute and Harp. He told me I need to get a portfolio of “art” music prepared. Trying to get Glinka Nocturne ready for next recital but it is a slow go. Also Durand’s Chaconne, Bach’s Siciliano, and Damase’s Adagietto. My teacher wrote a middle section for flute and harp to lengthen it. He tells me I should go through this “portfolio” at least every other day. He is also writing cadenzas which he thinks are more musical for each of three movements of the Mozart concerto. He keeps me very busy.

I took a much-needed break — mom died, job responsibilities, etc. But when I went back we worked on tone production, hand position……it was a good time to look at those things after having a 6 month break from studies. I worked really hard at it all. I can feel and hear a huge difference in my playing. I’m working on Hasselman’s La Source, Andres’ Pistache and am working my way through the movements of Ceremony of Carols.

I really have the best harp teacher anyone could ever ask for.
