ParticipantHi! Has anyone tried to fit a Lyon Healy 23 in a Subaru Crosstrek Plug-in Hybrid model? The measurements seem to be OK, but just in case. Thanks!

ParticipantA full-size concert grand will fit in a Subaru Forester and an Outback, but we have never tried the Crosstrek. It seems too small, in my humble opinion!

ParticipantAlexandra, we were just at our local Subaru dealer’s car lot today, and I looked at a Crosstrek. It would be a miracle if you could fit a L&H 23 into that car! They are indeed very nice cars, and I think that a petite pedal harp would fit, but not a full-size concert grand.

ParticipantWow, thanks for your thoughts and efforts!!
I was looking for a hybrid plug in, alas…thanks!February 8, 2023 at 11:14 pm #300699Pamela Saunders
ParticipantI’m considering a Subaru Crosstrek or Chevy Trailblazer as my next car. As for pedal harps, I’m thinking of the 5’10” Lyon and Healy Chicago semi-grand or the 5’7″ Camac Clio extended. I remember a past Harp Column issue where the test harp (always a concert grand) didn’t quite fit into the Subaru Crosstrek.

ParticipantAn update is that I did get the hybrid plug-in Crosstrek after measuring it and the LH23 fits with my stool and I have an amp I also have that I put under the seat before I flip them down in the back.

ParticipantAlexandra, that is wonderful that you can fit the LH23 and all your accessories into the Crosstrek! How exactly do you place the harp, and are you short enough to drive with the seat close to the steering wheel? That is how my wife and I made the concert grand Atlantide Prestige fit into the Forester. I am 5′ 6″ and she is 5′ 2″, so we have the front seats pretty close to the front when we drive. A tall person would immediately slide them back, like when we are having the car serviced, ha, ha! So glad this is working out for you–the Crosstrek is a great car!

ParticipantThis is great to know that a 6’2″ harp fits in a Subaru Crosstrek. I still want one. Maybe I shouldn’t rule out full size pedal harps. Many of those are about 6’1″. And I doubt I would be be taking any harp out very often, let alone a pedal harp. If the harp doesn’t fit, renting a larger vehicle would not be so bad. The pedal harp trips I’m likely to make would be few and far between and close to home, if ever

ParticipantJust seeing these posts–yes, so relieved it fit–ha! Meanwhile, I am able to get a some space to sit in the seat, but I’m not very big and so I sit pretty close to the wheel as it is. Yeah I think a taller person would have difficulties. I slide the harp in flat, but I make sure it is slightly diagonal so it fits. I put the stool in the seat up front.

ParticipantThanks, Alexandra! I’m so glad to know how you place the harp in the Crosstrek with all your other accessories. In the 2024 Outback, the harp can go straight in, without placing it diagonally. There is an unbelievable amount of room for our other things, once the harp is loaded into the car. My grandmother used to own a Ford LTD station wagon which was a great harp cart back then! It also carried my 6 foot harpsichord very well.
Best wishes and harp hugs,
