Can anyone recommend a book of popular Christmas songs that are not carols? I’m thinking of things like Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas; Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire; White Christmas etc. I’d be looking for music for Lever Harp that isn’t too difficult to play while also not being aimed at complete beginners. I’d be very grateful for any suggestions even though I’ve probably left it a bit late now for this year.

The Pop and Easy books are good. Popular Christmas Album by Mary Jean Zarick is fun and easy. If you tune in E flat, you’ll need to re-tune for Sleigh Ride. The International Christmas Book by Ortiz is a lot of fun. Several of them have religious texts but because they’re probably unfamiliar to your audience, they should be fine. RoJean Loucks has an Arrangement of White Christmas. I think Sylvia Woods has a four Christmas Songs books as well that has some of the fun popular tunes in it.

    Lyn,

Go to harp store websites like http://www.harpconnection,com, http://www.folkharp.com and others that show the first page of music. Then you can see for yourself if the music works for you. I believe you are in the UK. There must be harp sites there that show the music. Some of the US online sites have PDF versions of music so you can pay for it via credit card and then easily download the music. I would suggest typing in the names of carols you would like to play. I know a number of them come as solo pieces as well as in carol collections.
