About a year ago i sold my Salvi Diana in order to get a newer, brighter sounding harp (she was about 30 and sounded very muddy, being walnut anyway) and I got a custom Aoyama special Monarch, which sounds amazing. I do miss my Salvi though, and currently want a smaller harp as well which will be more portable.

I really like the look of the Salvi Angelica *I think* and the Petit Diana, which i am especially interested in. Has anyone played these harps, or know anything about them. I know that they are considerably lighter and smaller, having only 46 strings. How does the sound compare?

    Many thanks, Megan

Just wondering does anyone have any experience with the Salvi Petit Diana?

Umm, excuse my ignorance, what is a “petite” Diana? I only know of one and it’s not so petite!

I think it was a sort of little sister to the Salvi Diana – it’s a semi-grand with 46 strings but looks(? and sounds?) like a Diana.

    But what about the Angelica?

Re “being walnut anyway”–the walnut’s just a finish, so what difference would that make? If it were really walnut, as many folk harps are, then it would make a difference.

I’ve played what is probably the student version of the Angelica, and will be renting it as of tomorrow (super excited about that, by the way!). It is, in my opinion, a lovely harp, though it has only 40 strings (I’m not sure about this, as I haven’t counted them). The sound is beautiful and mellow, at least in my ears, but it isn’t very loud, so I don’t think it would be good for concerts without an amplifier. “My” harp is quite old, but I have no idea how old (from the seventies maybe, my teacher suggested), so I can’t speak for newer Angelicas. I don’t think Salvi makes them anymore? They’re not on the website.
    I hope this helps!

Are there newer Angelicas? I thought they were all about that vintage.

Like I said, I have no idea how old it is, nor does my teacher. When were they made? If there were only about 100 made, then maybe “my” Angelica is as old as the rest of them.
I really love that harp, and I haven’t even brought it home yet!

I think mid to late 70s. Is “yours” the scrolltop or the square capital model?

Mine is the scrolltop model. Very beautiful. I’ve finally brought it home now, and must confess I’m too fond of it already… 🙂
