Has anyone had experience in replacing bushes in a soundboard? I have a Pilgrim Clarsach that is about 12 years old. I’ve purchased new bushes from Pilgrim but have no instructions for how to remove the old ones and fit the new ones. I’m wary of damaging the soundboard if I go about this the wrong way. Any tips gratefully received!

Pilgrim’s bushes are fitted by a means I would almost call riveting – at least the one I had to change on a Pilgrim Carsach was. I drilled it out from the inside until the inner lip came off, then it pushed out easily from the inside. I cut the new one to length and slid it in.

Thank you Tacye, that sounds quite straightforward. I’ve got new wire bass strings to fit as well so I wanted to tackle the whole project in one go – should keep me out of mischief for a while!

I think what you’re talking about are bushings, not bushes. In fact, the term usually heard is eyelet, not bushing.

Pilgrim call them bushes (and my Concise Oxford Dictionary agrees) – might be different in American!

Well that’s a new one on me!
