I don’t know if that counts as “new” but it’s relatively unknown.

Your “Terrestrial Mirror” is a really interesting piece, Nigel. I love the lyricism combined with such rich harmonies.

A website devoted to new works for harp would be a wonderful resource. I’ve made a few small attempts at creating one, but haven’t ever had the time to really complete the process. It would be ideal to have a site where composers can create and maintain their own pages with sound files, pdfs for sale or free download, ordering information for hard copies, etc. Traditional publishers provide one kind of filtering process, but in the bigger picture it looks like their role is becoming increasingly archaic and there are more efficient and accurate forms of filtering available through technology.

Andrew, your piece “Ashgrove Cottage” for harp, flute, and viola has a lovely clear, light, and expressive quality. I’d like to hear more about the background on the title. There is an elegant, apparent simplicity combined with more complex climaxes that is evocative of the title. I suspect there are a number of performers who would enjoy playing it. It is quite delightful.

Thanks, Julietta, for your comment on the piece. It’s taken me a while to get back here, but I can report that “Terrestrial Mirror” is now available on the CD “Music for Small Groups” by blumlein records. Anyone wishing to order it can take advantage of the free postage and packaging offer by selecting the “kiwi special” button on the blumlein records page.

Since you would have listened to the recording on my site we redid the mixing so the harp is now more present in the mix. The mp3 files will stay on my site for as long as possible and I’m organizing a streaming version too. The CD offers a different listening experience of course.

Marjan Mozetich’s Song of the Nymphs has been making the rounds for a while. I was coaching a student in it today, and enjoying it thoroughly. Another great Canadian piece is by Milton Barnes, Dance of the Poplars. I have a large number of solos I hope to make public fairly soon.
