ParticipantHey Gang,
Just got back from Melbourne this weekend, and picked up a second hand 17 that Lyon and Healy sent me. Did anyone else know that they sell second hand and restored harps? I had no idea till some kind soul on the column told me and I

ParticipantYes, indeedy, curly wurly gurly now, so much so that frilly frocks are just crying out for me to wear them…This harp is way too glamorous for me…I’m a plain Jane, so I’m gonna have to get me some red lippy very quickly.
Actually, Briggs, that Athena of yours in walnut is darn glamorous….hope they enjoy the Pirastro. I have Savarez on the top octave of my 100 CG and it really likes that, it gives a little more tension and a brighter sound than nylon. I tried them on my old Salvi once and that harp didn’t like Savarez at all, as it was already a highish tension, but the 100 likes them. This 17 has a really lovely upper register, from 3rd F it is just lovely and the top octave is surprisingly nice with long strings and loads of hand room. It’s a little contained through 4th to 5th octave, but then is needs to be played in, and as that register seems to change the most on harps with time, I’m glad about this, as my pet peeve is muddy harps…harps that sound boomy and played in from the outset and turn to slush and mud in 5 years time with no clarity or

ParticipantHi Cei Cei,
Thanks for your words, that is so kind of you all! I feel odd bragging about my harp alone, where are all the other 17 lovers??? (probably too busy doing gigs!)
You are all kind souls to show such interest in me and my harps!
In answer to Cei Cei, its a lovely little harp in natural with a sweet voice. It still needs playing in, as it was only “mildly” used, so it a little contained. But it has started to warm up and it has a round rich sound that I think will develop extremely well. It does not have any harshness or brittleness, and although it is bright – not too much.
I love playing it, it is so well balanced and such a good size for me. This winter my injury has been playing up quite a bit, and although I can play the 100 there are times when I have had to pull back and stop practising…this 17 I can go like energizer bunny for hours with no ill effects at all. So,

ParticipantI guess I don’t have to send you ours, after all! I love the 17, and the one we have at school has a huge sound and a very full, rich tone.

ParticipantYes, I did not realise it either – that L&H sold second hand and restored – until a columnite wrote to me and mentioned it in passing. So! I suppose I have the harp column to thank for this 17! They are going to have

ParticipantAhhh…I feel your excitement. I just got a style 100 semi-grand….I am so excited. I played at school, and have not had access to a harp all summer.
Excitement does not even begin to cover how I feel!
