I don’t know about a plain ol’ sponge, but this:

has worked well for my 26 string lap harp (Blevins Bouree).

BTW (wish we could edit posts, oh well) I keep my harps in their cases at all times, which probably helps this type of humidifier to work better.

Carl, can you provide an actual link for these humidifiers?

The model I have is # 34355, but I’m sure it isn’t still made. #33257 looks much the same.

    Carol,

I purchased and Essick/Moist Air whole house portable humidifier about a year ago.

It must have been another thread, but I said, use a vaporizer or two. In a large room, their warm vapor won’t have any ill effect, but will humidify without needing expensive supplies or labor. I found Hunter’s to be crap, requiring replacement wicks, extensive cleaning, additional supplies, just ridiculous, and noisy. Vaporizers are nearly silent.

Thanks Donna, but I need something small and quiet.

“This is my husbands home, not mine and I need something that will mainly just humidify the area near the instruments- my husband will not tolerate anything that causes moisture to collect at all on the windows.

If your harp has time to dry out gradually, I think lower humidity in the winter is not such a big problem as long as you have some. My harp started out in Minnesota, and it survived.
