Hi, hope you are all having a good day,

I am currently trying to replace the 4th Octave B string on my Salvi harp. I am using a Lyon-Healy, Artist Brand, White nylon string. I am trying to tie the knot so that the string won’t slip through the soundboard, but the knot will not stay! The string so smooth that it won’t hold a knot tightly, it slips back into a very loose knot, loose to such an extent that my toggle/stopper falls out.

I don’t usually encounter this problem, is this something that often happens with nylon strings? Please help, all you harpists know how incredibly important this string is on the harp! Thank you!

You can use a pair of pliers on the tail end to pull the knot really tight before putting it into the harp. A drop of superglue, so long as it is totally dry before the string goes near the harp, may help to hold the toggle put until the knot it pulled tight on the harp.

I wonder why you’d want a nylon below middle C. I didn’t know anyone used them down there.

Yes, I will never try to use nylon string after the third octave again! Thanks for the help!
