ParticipantHi Everyone,
I’m looking around for harp/violin music, suitable for lever harp. As far as difficulty level, I’m not exactly sure where I’d put myself. Upper intermediate?
I hope someone will have some good suggestions.
Thanks!

ParticipantDo you mean something for both harp and violin to play together? Irish or Scottish tunes would be perfect, including O’Carolan pieces. Anyway, that’s pretty much my entire repertoire (I play both harp and fiddle).

KeymasterI would try some of Ernie and Becky Brock’s arrangements for flute and harp. The flute part could probably be played easily on violin. They are wonderful arrangements that would probably be right at your level.

ParticipantI use the Brock arrangements a lot. My partner plays violin and we have had some trouble finding music written for harp and violin (it seems when there is such music, it’s for advanced harpists.)

MemberAndelin, the three volumes in the “With a Friend” series published by Herald Music are printed with lever harp plus string quartet parts. No lever changes need to be made throughout each piece. You can turn them into satisfactory violin and harp duets simply by playing those parts only. If the violinist is capable with double-stopping , he/she could play both Treble 1 and Treble 2 parts at once, for richer harmony. The whole series contains 53 arrangements in Folk, Christmas, and Familiar Hymn categories, and are sold in the U.S. and several foreign countries, by specialist harp music dealers.

ParticipantTake a look at “Algues” by Bernard Andres. It is a set of seven pieces, and there are several videos on youtube. I also have an arrangement of “Berceuse” by Alexander Ilyinsky, “officially” for harp and cello or flute, but it works fine with violin as well. You can find it on my website, which is http://www.lalharp.com. (I have recently changed the distribution of notes between the hands for better phrasing, but this is not yet reflected in the sample page shown.)

ParticipantDeborah Henson-Conant’s “The Nightengale” works nicely with the violin playing the voice part of the harp/voice arrangement. It’s very pretty and a good crowd-pleaser! http://www.harpcenter.com/product/pdf-download-henson-conant-nightingale/ (PDF download)
