    Hello all,

a few days ago I had an “Harp Nightmare” and I thought that it would be fun to ask you guys if you`ve ever had one 🙂

In my nightmare I was taking off the dust cloth from my harp, sitting on the stool and then find out that FOUR strings were broken, I think it was from middle C to F, all gone!

I felt desperate mostly because I usually take ages to put a new string on…

Anyway I did broke some strings in the last weeks…damn UK crazy weather 🙁

I think the broken string dream is pretty common!

I never had a harp nightmare dream before but I think I will have one about the broken strings after reading this post.

My strings always seem to break in the middle of the night and wake us up, ha, ha!

That was real life normal at the Summer harp camp I went to I think 9 times where everyone’s harp had moved to a coastal humid location and the result was strings going everywhere. Plus point – you get a lot quicker at changing them the more you do! My worst harp nightmare was it falling off a big stage when the interval stage movers rolled the Steinway into it. That very nearly happened in real life too.

I have had nightmares about not having the tuning key at a gig! So much so, that years ago I purchased an extra key for each of my harps, and those tuning keys stay packed in the pockets of the harp transport covers. This has actually happened to me only once in my long harp career, and it was at an Easter Sunday church service before I got the extra keys. Luckily, the harp stayed well enough in tune that no one noticed anything.

This is a super old thread but I just had to share. I recently had a nightmare where I let a family member play with my harp and they knocked it over. The soundboard broke into pieces! I woke up all stressed and had to make sure it was okay. LOL!

Another nightmare I have had is not being able to find the venue for a harp gig! A few years ago, I was engaged to play for a wedding at “Inspiration Point,” a place I had done weddings before. When we got there, no one was around setting up. It was weird, so finally my sweet wife went “hunting” for the wedding party. She finally found them in time, at a local Inn which had its own “Inspiration Point!” Who would have known that there were two places called the same thing? That has caused the “nightmares,” but we have always found the gig place, in real life!

Hoping to have no more harp nightmares, hugs,
    Balfour (and Carol Lynn)
