    Well, sure there was a reason for changing the G pedal with the left foot, in this particular piece of music, the G and A had to be moved at the same time!

    I was taught that your feet do not cross to change pedals on the

    opposite side.

    Hi! Here’s my 2 cents:

    The technical term for this technique is “cross-pedaling”. Sometimes

    it’s the most expedient way to deal with a pedaling problem. It almost

    always involves the left foot on E or F pedals. I’ve never run across

    an example where the right foot had to be on B. I’ll have to try it,

    but it seems like it would be very difficult to keep the harp

    balanced.

    The notation for cross-pedaling is to draw a box around the markings

    for the pedals that need to be moved with the foot that would not

    ordinarily move them. In the event of simultaneous pedal changes,

    “right foot” pedals are marked above “left foot” pedals.

    I hope this is helpful. Cross-pedaling is a valuable resource.

    Practice it a little, and it will soon become easy!

    Cross pedaling is deployed when a chromatic change occurs that has no enharmonic substitute.

    I have several blues tunes which require the right foot to move the B pedal and the left to move the D pedal at the same time.

    Some examples:

    Debussy: danse sacree et profane. Renie has written some pedalling and twice there’s cross pedalling in the sacree, twice in the profane. In the sacree, I just avoid cross pedalling because it’s possible to move your feet fast, but in the profane I think I’m trying to enharmonize some things…well, I ask my teacher, it’s Christmas holiday and I just started…

    J. Jongen: Danse lente for flute and harp: in the murmuring passage I use cross pedalling.
