ParticipantHi there,
What are your favorite pop tunes for the harp? I am now working with a pedal harp after 20+ years of Celtic harp and Celtic music, and the move was in part to open up different genres of music. So which are your most favorite pop tunes? I’d love to hear!December 14, 2013 at 12:35 am #62106Sylvia

ParticipantThanks Sylvia! I love Lara’s Theme, and had completely forgotten about it. I keep hearing about songs from video games too… been thinking about exploring that as well.

ParticipantI haven’t played a lot of pop but I love What a Wonderful World arranged by Paul Baker! It’s a good crowd pleaser too. 🙂

ParticipantFor Lever Harp, favorites are:
Dances with wolves, homeward Bound (written by Marta Keen), over the rainbow, all arranged by Angi Bemiss
Angel (written by Sarah McLachlan, arranged by Paul Baker)
Ribbon in the Sky (Stevie Wonder, arranged by Stephanie Bennett includes a more complex arrangement for pedals)
Would like to learn Zelda and some Metallica, stairway to Heaven, titanic, morning has broken and lord of the rings, Beatles tunes..great thread as I am looking for Pop arrangements to learn too..December 14, 2013 at 7:39 pm #62110haromagik
ParticipantThanks for these Deb! I still play my Celtic Harp… quite a bit actually, so these are great too. I have a few of the arrangements, just haven’t dived in yet. Kathryn I have that arrangement by Paul Baker, just love it. Now I’ve got to learn it. I am working on an arrangement of Since You’ve Asked by Judy Collins. We’ll see where I go with it. Such a beautiful song.

ParticipantWhat a fun thread!
I have a personal love for “pop” music (really classic rock and older pop hits, current music of almost all genres makes me sad).
The Long and Winding Road by the Beatles – Arrangement by Sylvia Woods in her Lennon and McCartney for the harp book. This one is my dad’s favorite, it sounds beautiful on lever or pedal!
I play my own arrangements of…
Dire, Dire Docks from Super Mario 64 ( Take a listen, this song is beautiful! @http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=H1B52TSCl_A )
And Serenade of Water from Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time and also bits of Queen Rutela’s theme from Twilight princess. (The Queen’s theme is adapted from the original in Ocarina of Time, so I just used a little of both. @http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9gK1Nqqsy6o )
I’ve seen harpists cover both of these. How beautiful! I am in love with video game music. ^_^

ParticipantGreat ideas, Natalie, thanks! I enjoyed both of these youtubes, especially the Twilight Princess one. I could see that blending in beautifully with something else… perhaps what you did. I just came across a website I am going to explore, gamethemesongs.com.

ParticipantThere is a youtube channel FULL of over a thousand video game songs, supradarky!

I am subscribed. Some are obviously face paced battle themes, but so many surprising beauties come along too!
I’d love to check out that website, thanks!
