I’m french, harpist, currently poursuing a PhD research in Paris Conservatory and Sorbonne University. I try to product a catalog about all french harpsichord pieces wich could be adaptated for harp.
If you would be so kind as to take a few minutes of your time and answer this questionnaire, it would be a great contribution to my PhD research.
Have you ever played / asked your students to play a French piece originally written for the harpsichord?
If not, why?
If so, which pieces? Were they transcriptions for the harp or just original harpsichord scores? What kind of problems did you encounter?
Would a catalogue of French pieces for harpsichord playable on the harp be of use to you?
If so, should they be classified by author, or according to their degree of “transcribability”?
When transcribing a piece to the harp brings about adaptation issues, would you rather be presented with suggested possible solutions, a definitive transcription, or nothing (i.e. devising your own solution)?
Which kind of information would you find useful in the introduction of such a catalogue?
Does an Internet forum about the interpretation of early / baroque music on the modern harp seem useful to you?
Any other comments?
Please don’t hesitate to circulate this questionnaire to your harpist friends and contacts !
Thanks a lot for your help and sharing your thoughts about this reflexion,
And sorry for my mistakes in english,
Best regards,
Constance
