ParticipantI used to own a harp part for the reduced version (organ, harp and percussion) of Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms. One of my students has been asked to play it, but the choir only has the score and not a proper harp part. Does anyone have a real harp part? I would be willing to buy it from you.

ParticipantHello, Elizabeth, I found this post in my search for the part. All I am seeing on the net is the score. I would love to buy a copy from you, or if you know how I can find just the proper harp part for the reduced version. Thank you!

ParticipantVery interesting now I understand that it’s a bona fida reduction by Boosey & Hawkes or Bernstein. I’d assumed it was a David Hill reduction. However it’s reported to be dificult so perhaps needs revising or splitting into 2 parts or well, made playable… I’ve only ever played the fully scored work, with 2 harps.

ParticipantMusikFind1 – I’m sure most of the harpists looking for the part would love to buy it from the publisher but it isn’t available without buying the other parts – which would be pointless for a harpist to own. It’s a shame the publisher hadn’t twigged that most professional harpists play this piece over and over again and have their own copy marked up with their own fingering and pedalling. Most of us have our own way of doing it!!
Alison, the solo part (from the Hp, Org and Perc. version) is essentially a condensed version of the two harps from the orchestral version, it’s not hard. There are a couple of tricky moments in the first mvt. that need a bit of practice but it’s a joy to play. Stunningly beautiful.
