ParticipantI am 76 years old and I am trying to liquidate my estate. I was a child student of Carlos Salzedo, Lucille Lawrence, and Alice Chalifoux. I have a very large fine art oil painting of Carlos Salzedo with two students that I am looking to donate.
If someone can connect me to the International Harp Association I would appreciate it. Perhaps they will be interested in acquiring it for their Salzedo Archive collection. It is an oil painting that was commissioned by Edith Salvin Bloom and painted by the renowned artist, Marion William Steele.I am also looking for get in touch with Lise Nadeau Harmon, would anyone be able to send me her contact information. Thank you very much.

ParticipantThis is a lovely gesture!
I am a Salzedo student also having attended the Salzedo Harp Colony in 1971. I would suggest contacting
Judy Loman who studied with Salzedo. She is at the Glenn Gould School in Toronto. Her email is judyloman000@sympatico.ca . Or contact Felice Pomeranz from the American Harp Society ahsfelice@aol.com. Either harpist would be able to help find the appropriate entity for the donation of this painting.Yours,

ParticipantI am very interested in this portrait. The artist was part of a committee that founded a Salzedo Scholarship Fund in Boston, of which I was a long-term beneficiary.
Lucile Lawrence created a collection of Salzedo’s music in the library of the Mannes College of Music, which would be one appropriate home for it. So would Boston University, which has a Lucile Lawrence memorial studio. Ball State University, where her student, Elizabeth Richter taught, is another suitable repository.
Lise Nadeau Harmon retired several years ago. I have some contact information, but I don’t know if it is up to date or not.
Of course, the archives of the Curtis Institute of Music have all of Salzedo’s manuscripts and papers, so that, while not accessible to the public, is the most logical place to put the painting. They sometimes do exhibits on him and do have other artwork of Salzedo.October 21, 2024 at 12:52 am #374153Saul Davis Zlatkovski
ParticipantLet me revise my response. As much as I would treasure such a painting, the Curtis Institute archives are the best place for it, I think, or else a museum. I don’t know if they would want a painting by Bloom or not. It would certainly be good cover art for the American Harp Journal. Perhaps the library in Camden, Maine would want it. But I’m sure Curtis would value it, and keep it safe.

ParticipantThis is the information I found on the New England Harp Association: Gerald Goodman, president; Reinhart Elster, vice-president; Edith Salvin Bloom, secretary; and Helen Silver, treasurer. They administered the Carlos Salzedo Scholarship Fund, of which I was a recipient. It may have been funded by money from Salzedo’s estate, or from friends of his. I heard one version from Alice Chalifoux, and the other from Lucile Lawrence. Perhaps both are true.
