ParticipantHi Shelby,
Congratulations on your new harp!!
I know what you mean about the Salvi sound. This brand is known for its wonderful warm tone. I have a Salvi semi-grand with their new concept soundboard, and it’s exquisite.May 24, 2013 at 3:00 am #76722shelby-m
ParticipantSorry for the delay! I’ve been busy playing the new harp so not much time for posting pictures of it, haha. Anyway, here’s some pictures! I got a force-flash photo of the kneeblock so you can see all the layers of the mahogany and the really rich color of the wood. It’s GORGEOUS. The pictures really don’t do it justice. And the sound is amazing.
You can’t really tell from the pictures (poor lighting), but except the soundboard, the harp is all the same color mahogany and the wood grain is just lovely. ♥

ParticipantThat’s a sweet looking harp. Lucky you have a tissue box handy as I’d be crying tears of joy too.

ParticipantOh boy, that is one beautiful-looking harp! I’ve always been a bit put off the look of a lot of pedal harps because I’m not a fan of all the gilding that used to be so ubiquitous but I’m very excited to see that a lot of the harps that are currently popular rely more for their good looks on gorgeous wood and beautiful carving. No prizes fir guessing how you’re spenind every spare minute at the moment, I guess.

ParticipantThose fancy guilded ones are nice, but I’d be afraid to go near it for fear of messing it up! Also, it can seem a bit too much in more casual situations. My harp is a clean kind of elegant, if you get my meaning. It will fit in no matter where I play! I just can’t get over the fact that this beautiful harp is actually mine!!

ParticipantI agree with you, Shelby. I guilded virtually anything as my hobby: woodwork, stone sculpture, plastic model, eggs etc. But I would never guild on my pedal harp. The natural elegance of wood and the warm tone of a Salvi is addictive. Congratulations for having such a gorgeous instrument! Please kindly post some sound clips on this thread. I really love to listen to her sound!

ParticipantThis is so exciting! I do remember your posts and always look for them as I was at a similar level (although, quite a bit older) and have a Dusty Strings Ravenna 34. I also got a pedal harp last year. Your harp is beautiful! You have an awesome family and I am so happy for you!

ParticipantHey there, I am so longing for a pedal harp. I play a Dusty Strings FH36, which I love, but that chromatic music is calling! I’ve been playing Celtic harp a long time, but you two (J Valentine and Shelby) are inspiring. Maybe I’ll find a way to do it! I’m thinking about going to Harps Etc. in August… explore the rent to own program they’ve got. Congratulations Shelby and J Valentine! I wish I could hear you both play!

ParticipantThanks everybody! I’m just LOVING the sound. Every time I play, she just sounds more and more fabulous. I have a pretty good mic so I will try to make a recording next week. I’m learning Memory from Cats right now and those low bass wires are like dark chocolate for my ears!
No name yet. I never even named my lever harp! I wish that if I did, they would carry themselves to the car….
@J Valentine, I do have an awesome family. They have always supported my musical aspirations and made a lot of sacrifices (both money AND time) so that I do improve at what I love most. And they never complain when I want to practice, even if it’s 10:30 at night. 🙂

ParticipantOMGosh, I am driving to Phoenix, Arizona tomorrow to look at a barely used Camac Clio for only $9000. Wish me luck! I hope my Celtic harp fingers can figure out if it’s the harp for me.

ParticipantShelby,
Dark chocolate! That’s a great way to describe the bass strings of a Salvi harp! -
