ParticipantUnfortunately Davy got the message from his pre-conservatory high-school that he may not continue his studies there after 3 years of attending this school. He was not up to conservatory standards and that was a bitter pill to swallow. I’ll not go into further details but yesterday he had his final performance at the school’s music evening and wanted to perform up to his best to show what he was capable off. I think he made a great statement and was very proud of his performance. He’ll continue playing and he will find his way somehow I’m sure about that…
I hope you will enjoy it:

ParticipantA fantastic performance from this talented young man. Life has its discouraging moments, but he should not let the high school matter interfere with him achieving his goals. I’m sure he will have a lifetime of great music-making ahead of him.

ParticipantWhat does Davy see himself doing in 10 years time? Harp as a great hobby or harp as part of his work? If he really, really wants to study performance harp after school then he should find a good new teacher, buckle down and do exactly what they want him to (even though that could involve going right back to some basic technique and etudes) and commit to a good amount daily of solid regular practice. He can then apply to a number of different conservatories as he comes to the end of high school. That would be the usual path in most countries anyway so he is too young to consider himself written off. What was his attitude like btw to criticism? Sometimes they cut those they don’t feel were receptive enough to that!

ParticipantHis plans have changed in time. He wants it to be a great hobby, but has come back from being professional. It’s just not his way of life after all. It’s just the way how it was communicated that hurt a lot and left a dent. He will come over and now feels the freedom again to play what he chooses and he will keep having lessons from the same teacher but in another way now. Attitude to criticism is always a thing, specially with boys in puberty I know as a teacher myself. That will grow in time. Unfortunately that’s not always accepted.
In the end all is ok and we will follow a different path and hope that music stays an important thing in his life.
