Was that Stephanie Bennett playing harp onstage on American Idol?

I think so. She was playing a Venus Paragon.

And Simon said the harp was boring!

Of course, at other times Simon keeps mentioning that “this is a singing competition”….

Yes, that was me all right, thanks for noticing, Kathleen! It was exciting! The stage looks just as flashy and fabulous in person as it looks on TV (all those flashing video screens and spinning globes and…).

I was impressed that you were playing by memory! Wow. That takes a lot of trust of yourself, and the singer has to trust you.

Did you have a lyric-chord chart-sheet music monitor just in case of a “senior moment”?

    Flawless!

Thanks, Christian! No, I did not have a sheet (or visual monitor) with me on stage, but we rehearsed from 10:30 am till 1, and I was only on that one song, and it’s pretty simple, so I had plenty of time to practice backstage and memorize it. (Then lunch at 1, then change into wardrobe, then dress rehearsal at 2:30, then live at 5.) So I felt pretty confident.

Simon Cowell is a man of high pronouncements and low taste.

Woo hoo, I thought that was you, Stephanie! I was watching the live east coast feed with a couple friends and got so excited. I bought the video right away as soon as it was available as I am an iPod fanatic, but also American Idol takes down the videos from other sites because they have the iTunes performance videos viewing for free on their own official site. Here’s the link for the wondrous Stephanie…

My friends were so impressed that I knew you, because that means they’re all just a couple degrees of Adam Lambert now. Because of YOU! So much fun.

    Stephanie,

An excellent job. It was a thrill to see a harp on American Idol. I have often listened to some of the arrangements and thought, “that would have been so much better if there were a harp”. But of course I am a bit biased.

Anyway it was great to see you on the show, and while I can appreciate Simon’s critique of the singing, his views on the overall arrangements of the music always leave a lot to be desired. You brought real class to the show.

The guy can’t sing his way out of a paper bag, but the harp was lovely.

Is it on YouTube? I love to see and hear the harp but I had a paper due this coming Monday, so no TV until it’s done!
