Shortly after a soft launch event in the Fringe Club Gallery in Hong Kong, World Harp Day will hold its first official in-person activity from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on June 10 in Milan, Italy, The event is free and includes harp performances, lectures, and presentations. Reservations are recommended.
Led by Alexander Boldachev and a team of harpists, enthusiasts, and professionals, World Harp Day says its purpose is “to nurture an inviting and outreaching platform that fosters intercultural dialogues in order to drive innovation, embrace diversity, and promote inclusiveness and a culture of peace and sustainability through harp music.”
The Milan event is co-presented by World Harp Day, Milan Conservatory, Musica D’Arpa, Salvi Harps, and Harp-E. Designer Joris Beets will present on his latest invention, a self-assembly electro-acoustic harp known as Harp-E. Beets also designed Salvi’s electric harp, Delta.
Guest performances at the event include a program of Russian harp music with a Swiss twist by current Milan Conservatory visiting harp professor Alexander Boldachev, as well as a closing concert by jazz harpist Park Stickney. Boldachev will also introduce on stage the laureates of a recent junior harp competition held in Zurich: the Lira Helvetia.
Lecture topics include the music of Claude Debussy with Maria Elena Bovio, the music of Maurice Ravel with Gabriella Dall’Olio, Baroque music with Cristiana Passerini, biomechanics in harp playing with Lisetta Rossi, and electro-acoustic harp with Marcella Carboni.
