The Szczecin (Poland) Philharmonic has appointed Juliusz Wesołowski principal harpist, following auditions held Feb. 28. Wesołowski will begin his new role in September.
“I had my debut concert [May 17], performing [Manuel] de Falla’s El Sombrero de Tres Picos, as well as the Candide overture [by Leonard Bernstein],” Wesołowski says. “The orchestra did an amazing job [with] only three rehearsals, [which] makes me happy.” Wesołowski says he is excited to join the orchestra’s “team of excellent musicians.” “I feel that’s a great chapter for me to begin, and I can only see it in golden (like the concert hall) colors!”
Wesołowski previously served as principal harpist of the Koszalin Philharmonic in Poland and regularly performs as a soloist with orchestras and chamber groups. Wesołowski has won prizes at several international harp competitions in Austria, the United States, Ukraine, Sweden, Poland, Russia, and Germany. He was also a finalist of the 4th Hong Kong International Harp Competition in 2018 and the 8th International Harp Competition Suoni d’Arpa in Saluzzo, Italy. He holds a master’s degree with highest honors from the Academy of Music in Łódź, studying with Beata Tarnowicz-Kamińska.
