The USA International Harp Competition (USAIHC) has announced the 45 harpists from 19 countries competing in its 13th contest, which will take place May 14–24 in Bloomington, Ind.
The USAIHC is a triennial competition that takes place at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music. Open to harpists of all nationalities between the ages of 18 and 32, the competition was founded by Susann McDonald in 1989. The USAIHC is led by Artistic Director Elizabeth Hainen, Associate Artistic Director Emmanuel Ceysson, and Executive Director Francine Marseille. Contestants compete in four stages: two stages of required repertoire, a 45–minute free choice program (incorporating two required pieces), and a concerto performance for the three finalists. The third stage will include the piece selected as winner of the 8th USAIHC Ruth Inglefield Composition Contest, Bioluminescence, written by Kalen Smith.
