Kristen’s pedagogical approach focuses on musicality and technique, valuing each student’s individual learning style and goals. She enjoys working with a variety of ages, and believes the harp is a beautiful instrument that anyone can enjoy! She is available to teach private harp and piano lessons, lessons and tutoring for music theory, ear training, and chamber music coaching. Harpist Kristen Bruce Young is passionate about reaching audiences worldwide through a dynamic range of repertoire. Her performance career has encompassed appearances with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, The Chelsea Symphony, UNCG Opera Theatre, UNCSA Nutcracker Ballet Orchestra, and for the 12th World Harp Congress in Sydney, Australia. She’s been honored to perform the world premier of Hrið-Móðr-Ljómi by Jeffrey Holmes, recording for soundtracks at the UNC School of Filmmaking, and performing with the Mannes American Composers Ensemble and jazz with the New School Studio Orchestra in New York City. Kristen earned her Master of Music degree in Harp Performance at Mannes School of Music in New York City, studying with Barbara Allen, Principal Harpist with the American Ballet Theatre. She studied for her Bachelor of Music degree in Harp Performance from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, where she also received training in piano pedagogy, German, and dance, while studying harp with Jacquelyn Bartlett.
