JUNO award winning harpist Angela Schwarzkopf concertizes throughout North America as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral musician. She currently teaches at the University of Toronto, the Glenn Gould School, at McMaster University, and in her private studio. Angela is a harp examiner with the Royal Conservatory College of Examiners. She is Second Vice President for the American Harp Society and serves on the editorial board of to the American Harp Journal. Angela has over fifteen years of private music teaching experience, working with students of all ages from four years old to eighty plus. Her teaching covers a wide range of styles, from helping students develop through the Royal Conservatory of Music program, to teaching contemporary and Celtic music. Her studio is in the downtown area of Toronto, but online lessons are also available.
In addition to her private studio, Angela teaches harp, theory, and group music classes at local music schools. She is a course instructor at the University of Toronto and the Glenn Gould School, harp instructor at McMaster University, and is on faculty at the Young Artist’s Harp Seminar. Angela is currently a Royal Conservatory of Music examiner, and has served as an adjudicator for harp at the Glenn Gould School, the University of Toronto, the Kiwanis Music Festival, and the Young Artist’s Harp Seminar. Recently she has given masterclasses at the University of Regina, University of Toronto, and the University of Ottawa.
Angela’s main goal for teaching is to equip students with the tools to become their own teachers by creating an open learning space that allows for dialogue. She values the ability to communicate with students, as a coach or facilitator in the learning process. Through goal setting she challenges them and ultimately helps them to reach their goals.
It is Angela’s aim to inspire students with her own performance and research. Through her active professional performance schedule as a freelance musician, she is able to show how a performer can be successful in many areas from solo recitals, to chamber music, orchestral work, and beyond.
