Austrian harpist Elisabeth Plank is one of 25 artists chosen as a representative of The New Austrian Sound of Music (NASOM) for its eighth edition in 2023–2024. A panel of experts worked together with mica – music austria, Austrian Music Export, and Austrian music universities to identify the five best acts in the genres of classical music, jazz, pop/electronic, contemporary music, and global music. In the next two years, the young musicians will receive increased support for international performances. With the help of a global network of embassies, cultural forums, and consulates, these artists will make connections with foreign festival and concert organizers.
NASOM is a long-term sponsorship program established 20 years ago by the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs (BMEIA) to promote young emerging Austrian and Austria-based bands and musicians performing abroad and to highlight the modern creativity and cultural diversity of Austrian music. NASOM artists presented 330 concerts in almost 60 countries in 2021, despite COVID-related cancellations.
