New composition competition for harp honors Garella and Italian music

Competition Announcement: First International Competition of Harp Composition “Daniele Garella”
April 18, 2025

The Italian Harp Association, in collaboration with the Omraam Foundation ETS and Stella Mattutina Edizioni Publishing House, announces the First International Competition of Harp Composition “Daniele Garella.” The contest is dedicated to the late Florentine composer and poet Daniele Garella and honors his contribution to Italian music. Since 2014, Garella’s compositions have been included in the required repertoire of the International Harp Contest in Italy “Suoni d’Arpa,” organized by the Italian Harp Association.

The competition also aims to promote Italian music for the harp. It is open to composers of any nationality, with no age restrictions. Applicants must submit an original solo composition for pedal harp of medium difficulty, with a minimum duration of five minutes and a maximum of 7 minutes, inspired by Italy and the music of Daniele Garella. The composition must be unpublished and never performed, and the title of the piece must be in Italian. Submissions are due by September 15, 2025.

The winning piece will be published by Stella Mattutina Edizioni and will be included in the required repertoire of the International Harp Contest in Italy “Suoni d’Arpa” 2026 for Category B (the division for harpists up to 20 years old). In addition, the composer of the winning piece will receive €1,000.
