The harp and electronica duo FitkinWall recently released its new album Uist on the NXN label. Now available on major streaming platforms, the recording features Scottish harpist Ruth Wall on concert, electro, and wire-strung harps, as well as composer Graham Fitkin’s soundscapes with electronics, samples, and loops.
According to a press release, the album’s theme is “the eviction and subsequent migration of farmers and crofters from the Scottish highlands, [an event known as] the Clearances, [and the related ideas of] migration, loss, and longing.” All ten tracks of the album are new compositions by Fitkin, inspired by old Gaelic songs and Highland tunes. Following FitkinWall’s United Kingdom tour of Uist in 2024, the duo will tour mainland Europe in 2025 with a light installation from artist Peter Freeman. For more information, visit Wall’s website.
