Lyon & Healy announced details for the 2022 Lyon & Healy Awards, scheduled to take place March 9–12, 2022, at its concert hall in Chicago. The competition is open to harpists under the age of 30, with applications due Jan. 15, 2022.
The announcement comes after Lyon & Healy’s 2021 competition was canceled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. As a result of this year’s cancellation, new repertoire has been chosen for the 2022 contest. Competitors are required to perform Franz Liszt’s Un Sospiro, arr. H. Renié, and can choose between Manuel de Falla’s Spanish Dance No. 1 from La Vida Breve or Carlos Salzedo’s Jeux d’eau for their second selection. The three winners chosen will receive a $2,000 cash prize and a $500 gift certificate to Lyon & Healy. The 2019 Lyon & Healy Awards featured 54 harpists performing Nino Rota’s Sarabande e Toccata and Le Jardin Mouillé by Jacques de la Presle. Anya Garipoli, Claire Thai, and Noël Wan were selected as the competition prizewinners. Hannah Cope, Chelsea Lane, Adam Phan, Juan Riveros, and Grace Roepke were all recognized as honorable mentions.
