Israel Contest Announces Repertoire

Yuying Chen received first prize at the 19th International Harp Contest in Israel.

The International Harp Contest in Israel has announced repertoire for its 20th contest, scheduled to take place October 15–25, 2018. The event takes place every three years in Isarel, this time under the direction of Julia Rovinsky. Read our interview with 19th contest winner Yuying Chen in the March-April 2016 issue of Harp Column. First Stage

1. Choice of sonata by Joseph Haydn (any edition):

  • A flat-major, Hob.XVI:43
  • D-major, Hob XVI-24
  • g-minor, Hob.XVI-44

2.  “Vltava,” by BedÅ™ich Smetana/Trnecek (Lyra or Salvi edition)

3. Choose one:

  • “The Wandering Stars,” by Boris Pigovat
  • “Movements & Pauses,” by Haim Permont

4. Choose one:

  • “Fantasy on Lara’s Granada,” by Carlos Salzedo
  • “Spanish Dance No. 1, by Manuel de Falla/Grandjany
  • “Cordoba” by Isaac Albéniz/Dulova

Second Stage

1. Choose one

  • Sonata, by Nicolas Flagello
  • Spiders, by Paul Patterson

2, Around the Clock, by Pearl Chertok

3. Israeli piece (to be announced in January 2018)

4. Free choice (6–8 minutes)

Third Stage

1. Trio for Violin, Cello, and Harp, by Jacques Ibert

2. Choice of Trio for Flute, Cello, and Harp, by Joseph Haydn/Rovinsky:

Final Stage
