IHC in Israel now accepting applicants

The International Harp Contest in Israel has announced that it is now accepting applications for the 20th contest, taking place Oct. 15–25, 2018. The four-round competition is open to harpists ages 36 or younger of all nationalities. Participation is limited to 36 contestants and all applications will be screened. All solo repertoire listed below must be performed from memory and all performances will be open to the public. YuYing Chen, first-prize winner of the 19th harp contest in 2015, will also give a featured performance at the 2018 event.

First Stage

  • Choose one Haydn sonata:
    • C major, hob. XVI 35
    • A-flat major, hob. XVI 43
    • D major, hob. XVI 24
    • G minor, hob. XVI 44
  • Smetana/arr. Trnecek: Vltava
  • Choose one:
    • Pigovat: The Wandering Stars
    • Permont: Movements & Pauses
  • Choose one:
    • Salzedo: Fantasy on Lara’s Granada
    • De Falla/arr. Grandjany: Spanish Dance no. 1
    • Albéniz/arr. Dulova: Cordoba

Second Stage

  • Choose one:
    • Flagello: Sonata for Harp
    • Patterson: Spiders
  • Chertok: Around the Clock
  • Israeli piece to be announced in January 2018
  • Free choice (6-8 minutes)

Third Stage

  • Ibert: Trio for Violin, Cello, and Harp
  • Choose one Haydn trio:
    • G major, hob. XV 15
    • D major, hob. XV 16
    • F major, hob. XV 17

Fourth Stage

  • Boieldieu: Concerto in C major
