Japanese harpist Mai Fukui has released a new album, Parfum de la harpe, now available from 299 Music Records. Fukui spent a decade studying French repertoire at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris. She says, “I’ve always wanted to record a CD of all French repertoire on the French Camac harp.”
In Fukui’s home country of Japan, the CD received a “Highest Honour” review in a major record magazine. In its May 2023 issue, the Record Geijutsu Magazine says the title of the album fits the harpist’s artistry. “Each piece is played with the sound world and emotions appropriate to the work and at the same time, the sound and accompanying resonance are beautiful, filling the air just like a scent or fragrance… Fukui’s refined performance is truly beautiful.”
