The Conservatoire de Sucy-en-Brie in France has appointed harpist Aurélie Caron to its faculty.
“As the new harp teacher at Conservatoire de Sucy-en-Brie, I aim to help and support each student learn to play the harp, and to respond to their requests and expectations,” Caron says. “The main goal is to give them all the passion and rigor they need in order to become independent players, even at the highest level… I’m also keen to show that the harp has many facets, and that it’s perfectly possible to play classical and jazz music, as well as folk, world, or pop music.”
Caron says she looks forward to the opportunities available for faculty at the conservatory. “The municipality of Sucy-en-Brie attaches great importance to its conservatory, which enables my colleagues and myself to work in a beautiful environment and to regularly create wonderful projects. My new position will enable me to gain experience and make adjustments to my teaching methods, so that I can better help each student determine his or her relationship with music and turn it into something positive for them, including the construction of their identity and their relation to the world. I want to show them all the beautiful sides of our instrument and help them on their journey as musicians and as people. On a personal note, I also take this new role as a chance to expand my repertoire and that of the harp in general, especially through arrangements for the time being and perhaps one day compositions as well.”
Caron first began her harp studies with Isabelle Perrin at the Paris Conservatory. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in “Music, Interpretation and Heritage” with honors, as well as a Master’s degree in “Music, Interpretation and Heritage” with honors, studying with Françoise de Maubus at the Versailles Conservatory. During these five years, she learned to play music from the ninth to the 21st century on triple harp, single action and double action harps. The following year, Caron obtained the French State Diploma for harp teaching, enabling her to teach at conservatories in France. She started teaching at private music schools in Paris before joining the Sucy-en-Brie Conservatory in September 2024.
Caron has won solo harp and chamber music prizes in national and international competitions. She made her concerto debut with conductor Louis Langrée, then played chamber music at Les Invalides in Paris. She has also played in professional and semi-professional symphony orchestras based in Paris and the surrounding region.
