The Ohio State University (OSU) has appointed Abigail Bachelor to its faculty, beginning in the fall 2024 semester. “My goal as a music teacher at OSU is to help students become an even better musician,” Bachelor says. “More importantly, I want to help them be able to achieve the goals they set for themselves.”
Bachelor says her connection with OSU started several years ago. “I started playing with the various music ensembles at OSU back when I was twelve years old as second harpist to the harp professor,” she says. “I am looking forward to being a part of the OSU community once more and reconnecting with old friends while making new ones.”
Bachelor has competed in numerous national and international competitions and has performed with numerous orchestras, ensembles, and harp duos. She has previously served as principal harpist for the New Albany Symphony Orchestra and The Ohio State University Wind Symphony and Orchestra. She is currently the principal harpist for the Ohio University’s Wind Symphony and Orchestra, as well as an alternate for the Columbus Symphony Orchestra.
Bachelor earned her Master of Music in Classical Harp Performance from the Manhattan School of Music in New York, studying with Mariko Anraku, associate principal harp of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. She received her bachelor’s degree in harp performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, Canada, under the tutelage of harpist Judy Loman.
