Catalan harper and singer Anna Amigó released her debut solo album on March 8. According to a press release, Amigó chose 12 Catalan folk songs to present in a new way in this album.

The album’s title Sang de Dona (Catalan for “Women’s blood”) and its cover art allude to the themes explored by its music and lyrics: women’s empowerment, matrilineality, and women’s daily trials and tribulations. Through the album, Amigó says her goal is “bringing these resilient female protagonists to life and empowering them [by transforming] the traditional, repetitive songs into modern, gripping storytelling.” Amigó uses percussive techniques to “reinforce the storylines [and] atmospheres” of each song, giving her own Catalan contemporary folk interpretation.
Sang de Dona comes in a deluxe edition, presented in an illustrated box containing the CD (physical and digital) and booklet (with lyrics and illustrations). For more information, visit Amigó’s website.
