American Harp Society announces 2020 competition repertoire

The American Harp Society Foundation Awards has announced repertoire for its upcoming competitions. Though the location and date of the competitions have not yet been determined, the Grandjany Memorial Competition will be held in conjunction with the Anne Adams Awards in the spring of 2020. Students interested in competing in the 22nd Anne Adams Awards must be members of AHS, enrolled full–time in colleges or universities (or other post–high school institutions) through a master’s degree. Three winners will be awarded $2,000 scholarships to be used towards their harp studies. To participate in the Grandjany Memorial Competition, competitors must be members of AHS under the age of 36. The winner will be awarded a $5,000 prize.

  • Caroline Lizotte: La Madone
  • One of the following:
    • Marius Flothius: Pour le tombeau d’Orphée, op. 37
    • Carlos Salzedo: Ballade, op. 28
    • Marcel Grandjany: Rhapsodie, op. 10
  • Two orchestra excerpts:
    • Johannes Brahms: Vier Gesänge, op. 17, harp part
    • Bela Bartok: Concerto for Orchestra, harp 1 part

Grandjany Memorial Competition

  • Marcel Grandjany: Children at Play, op. 16
  • Manuel de Falla, trans. Grandjany: Spanish Dance no. 1
  • Marcel Grandjany: Rhapsodie, op. 10
  • Maurice Ravel, trans. Grandjany: “Menuet” from Le Tombeau de Couperin
